Founded by Joshua, a professor and sex educator, Salon is a space for sexual, intellectual, and artistic exploration. Salon’s seminars and virtual play spaces provide stimulating opportunities for professional adults to share their sexualities, ideas, and to meet like-minded people. We know from experience that philosophy and the arts can seem unapproachable and are portrayed as less-than-sexy. Yet we believe that they help us better understand the kinks and lifestyles that shape us. And we know from experience how sexy they can be…
FAQs
What are Salon’s Seminars?
Seminars are the virtual space in which we come together as sexy, curious humans to discuss ideas and our sexualities and what they say about society. On a typical week we will likely read an original intellectual like (think of the erotic author Anaïs Nin, for example) and watch a thematically related erotic indie film. Group sizes range from half-a-dozen to fifteen people. This is a space in which you can be yourself, wear (or not wear) whatever you want, and speak your mind among welcoming, thirsty people.
What’s the vibe? Why did you start Salon?
Our seminars engender an exploratory, curious vibe in people can discuss big ideas, their own sexualities and experiences, and tackle social questions. It is also a fantastic way to meet like-minded people and learn about cool topics as busy professionals—all while being their sexy selves. Many of us work long hours and life does not always afford opportunities for self-exploration. Joshua and his fellow conspirators created Salon because we believe that everyone deserves pleasure and stimulation—intellectual, sexual, and communal.
Is this an inclusive space?
Yes, Salon is LGBTQ+ inclusive and explicitly anti-racist. We affirm that Black Lives Matter and we are not afraid to back that statement up in the streets and in daily life. This is a space where social norms and institutions such as heteronormativity, the patriarchy, and class hierarchies are questioned and challenged. This means that we celebrate non-traditional relationship arrangements and lifestyles.
Is this for real? Is this a cult?
It’s for real. And not yet.
Salon’s founder, Joshua, lives and plays between California and New York City. When not teaching or writing, he can be found along a coastline surfing somewhere in the world. He is available to travel for speaking engagements.
